Understanding estimates
What does TaxCalcy estimate?
TaxCalcy estimates employment-income tax, employee payroll or social deductions, and take-home pay from the inputs you enter. Depending on the country, the result represents annual liability, annualized payroll withholding, or a clearly labelled combination.
It is a planning estimate, not a filed return, payroll instruction or personalized tax advice. See how salary becomes take-home pay.
Which countries and tax years can I calculate?
These countries currently support salary estimates for the period shown. Choose a country to review its available locations and required inputs.

Location coverage is limited: Japan models Toshima, Tokyo; Switzerland models Zurich municipality with tariff A0N. A region selector does not mean every tax or personal situation is covered. Review coverage and sources before using an estimate. A displayed period does not automatically cover a later year.
What does a salary estimate cover?
The model covers a stated salary scope using reviewed sources; it does not cover a complete tax return. Required confirmations and payroll facts vary by country. Cases outside a model's supported scope remain unavailable rather than receiving a fallback preview estimate.
Older saved estimates may retain a Relocation preview label. Those inherited assumptions are unverified and should not be used for an offer, move or filing decision. Read about model limitations.
Why might my estimate differ from a payslip or official result?
Annual tax and paycheck withholding are not always the same. Pay timing, employer practices, other income, credits, residence, rounding and facts the tool does not collect can change the actual result.
For example, France shows annualized neutral-rate payroll withholding separately from its 2025 household assessment. The Netherlands shows annual liability rather than exact payroll withholding. Check the result's calculation trace, sources, assumptions and exclusions. See what an estimate does not prove.
Which inputs, deductions and benefits are included?
Salary and its frequency are used to build an annual income figure; hourly income also uses the entered hours and weeks. Location, filing status or regime, eligible contributions and explicit payroll inputs affect the estimate where the selected model supports them. A household entry does not automatically create a credit or benefit entitlement.
Coverage differs by country. Canada models an RRSP deduction using entered room and shows TFSA savings after tax. U.S. coverage includes traditional 401(k) and eligible direct HSA contributions, but excludes city and county taxes. India's optional EPF, ESI, NPS and professional tax require explicit applicability and payroll facts; deduction eligibility is not determined by TaxCalcy.
Benefit payments are not added to take-home. Other deductions, pensions and personal situations may be excluded by the selected model. Open the calculator's country-specific methodology for its included rules, exclusions and assumptions.
Where can I check assumptions, sources and rule updates?
The Methodology page explains the calculation approach and links to country sources. The calculator's sources and assumptions disclosure lists the selected model's coverage, assumptions, reviewed sources and review date, alongside the calculation trace.
TaxCalcy does not silently roll an estimate into a new year. Read how modeled years are handled.
Your workspace & data
Can I use TaxCalcy without an account?
Yes. Calculating and saving on this device do not require an account. The calculator processes your inputs in your browser. Google sign-in is optional, and signing in alone does not upload your existing local estimates. Read how calculator inputs are handled.
What happens when I save or sync an estimate?
Save estimate stores the scenario on this device in browser IndexedDB, including its inputs, tax year, model context and displayed annual take-home. Local-only records do not automatically appear on another device and may be lost if browser storage is cleared.
If you sign in and deliberately choose a Sync control, the selected scenario's inputs and model context are stored with your account in Supabase; the local copy remains. A release-aware synced estimate is recalculated when opened using its retained model release. Signing out does not delete local or synced records. Read the account and storage details.
How do I reset inputs or clear saved data?
Reset inputs returns the current scenario to the selected country's starter inputs. It does not delete saved estimates.
In the saved-estimates workspace, Clear estimate history removes local saved estimates while leaving family profiles and the current draft. Remove all local data removes the app's known local copies, including profiles, history, drafts and recovery data. Downloaded files and synced account records must be removed separately. Read about local data controls.
How can I report an issue or contact TaxCalcy?
Use the Contact page for questions, technical issues or feedback. For a calculation issue, include the country and tax year so we can understand the model involved. Keep personal financial details out of your message.
Household Budget Planner
How is a cash-timing budget different from income minus expenses?
A monthly average can be positive even when a bill arrives before your pay. Household Budget Planner uses opening cash, actual dates and your chosen buffer to show those tight days. Missing amounts remain unknown, and estimated income remains labelled.
Explore the fictional household exampleIs Household Budget Planner included with Job Offer Planner?
No. They are separate one-time purchases with independent access. Household Budget Planner is C$29 and Job Offer Planner is C$19, plus applicable government-imposed tax. The salary calculators and location comparison remain free. No bundle is currently offered.
Will my account restore my household budget on another device?
Your account restores purchased access. Household plans and recovery drafts stay in the browser where you create them. Download an explicit backup to move a plan. Signing in does not upload household data.
What if a digital purchase is duplicated or does not arrive?
Contact TaxCalcy support for duplicate charges, access problems or a product that does not work as described. Review digital purchase terms before payment. Statutory rights are preserved. Product availability is shown on each product page.
Job Offer Planner
What does the C$19 purchase include?
It includes the guided two-offer planner, costs and time analysis, benefits and priorities, Scenario Lab, Decision Brief and Plan, local saved comparisons, a personalized Excel workbook and the blank premium workbook for the purchased version. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Applicable government-imposed tax may be added by Stripe at checkout.
Does my account store my offer information?
No. Your account stores verified identity and purchase access. Salary, employers, costs, benefits, notes and decision-plan content stay in this browser by default. Opening the planner on another device restores access but does not restore comparisons from this device.
What happens after a refund or account deletion?
A full refund revokes future planner and premium-download access. Account deletion also removes active access while keeping any payment records TaxCalcy or Stripe must legally retain in minimized form. Neither action remotely removes a workbook already downloaded or local planner data; delete those separately from the device.
Which spreadsheet applications are supported?
The workbook is designed for current desktop Microsoft Excel. Excel for web, Excel for Mac and LibreOffice have not been fully verified; formulas, charts and printing may behave differently.
